Rope shunting device PZ 15

Rope device LTV-NV

The rope shunting device PZ-15 is intended for moving railway wagons during their loading and unloading at railway sidings, at liquid product filling stations, in front of tippers and at terminals. It is capable of moving and braking a set of wagons with a total weight up to 500 ton in both directions, photo gallery.

Basic description

We offer 2 versions of PZ 15: basic → for 1 rail and PZ 15 DUO → shunting of rail wagons takes place always on one of the two parallel tracks. The presence of an operator in the vicinity of rail cars is necessary only to turn on and off towing trolley's arm.

The device PZ 15 consists of basic units - drive stationreturn station and trolley with an arm, shoulder and a pin which is pulled along driveway outside the track by means of a towing rope. An integral part is an electrical switchboard with a control system and an aggregate for tensioning rope, more.

Control system

Starting and braking of the set are controlled by a frequency converter.

The programming machine in the technological switchboard allows logical connections to the existing technological devices of the siding (filling nozzles and arms, rail scales, etc.).

The entire shunting device technology can be designed and implemented in an environment with a risk of explosion.

Shunting process using LTV-NV

  • The shunting locomotive pushes the set of wagons to the shunting device location.
  • The operator uncouples the set of wagons from the locomotive, which can travel away in order to perform another tasks.
  • The operator usingf radio remote control, will shift the traveling trolley under side hook of one of wagons intended to be shunted. The operator will grab towing arm at holder, lifts it up and, at the same time, by micro-motion of the trolley moves precisely to the hook, executes coupling and secures the pin on the hook.
  • Then the operator moves a single wagon or multiple wagons to the designated location.
  • After the work is completed, the operator moves the wagons using the same procedure to the location where the shunting locomotive will take them over.

Device description

Is consists of welded travel frame, which through the use of anchor bolts is anchored to a concrete base where the main drive travels. The drive frame contains driving unit composed of three-phase air-cooled electric motor and planetary gearbox, on the output flange of which the drive rope pulley is mounted.

Placed on a concrete base of driving station are pulleys, guiding driving rope to the return station, shunting trolley and return to the station.

The driving rope’s tightening is effected using of hydraulic unit.

It consists of welded frames with mounted rope pulleys, which are anchored to a concrete foundation. The rope pulleys are protected by a cover.

The guide track is made of a steel I-profile or two U-profiles at a distance of approximately 1400 mm from the main track axis (according to the wagon specification), in which the trolley runs. It has a range of ± 100 mm from the guide track axis for attaching the side hook of the wagon and is protected in the end positions by double end sensors before it leaves the track. The trolley consists of a welded steel structure with a pulling arm with a booster spring for easy handling when attaching and detaching the pin.

The PZ 15 can also work in curves and switches. The runway can be hidden in the paving of a loading ramp or a road crossing. The rope is attached to the trolley using an eyelet and clamps.

The unlubricated steel traction rope is designed according to STN EN 12385-4 with a diameter according to the designed load. In the track yard, the moving branch of the rope is supported by sliding elements that reduce rope wear due to abrasion and keep it clean.

The shunting device is controlled as standard via a local control box, which is located in a clearly visible location next to the track, or from a control panel in the operator's room.

Another option is remote control using a radio set. The operator manipulates the wagons from any location on the track. The service control point is the switchboard itself, which is used only for maintenance and repair purposes.
