Rope device LTV-PV

The rope shunting device LTV-PV is intended for moving railway wagons during their loading and unloading at railway sidings, at liquid product filling stations, in front of tippers and at terminals. It is capable of moving and braking a set of wagons with a total weight of up to 1600 t, depending on local conditions, photo gallery.

Basic description

The LTV-PV device consists of basic units - a drive station, a return station and a shunting trolley, which is pulled along its own narrow-gauge track using a transport rope, more.

The pretension in the traction rope is not constant, but changes depending on the required function of the shunting trolley. It includes an electric switchboard with a control system and a rope tensioning unit. The trolley with its arms hidden in the non-working position drives under the stationary wagons and, when moving to the working position, extends the arms with push rollers to grip the wagon. After gripping the wagon wheelset, the device can push the train in both directions.

Control system

Starting and braking of the set are controlled by a frequency converter.

The programming machine in the technological switchboard allows logical connections to the existing technological devices of the siding (filling nozzles and arms, rail scales, etc.)

The entire shunting device technology can be designed and implemented in an environment with a risk of explosion.

Shunting process using LTV-PV

  • The shunting locomotive pushes the set of wagons into the shunting device area.
  • The operator disconnects the set from the locomotive and it can perform other tasks.
  • The operator uses the local control box or remote control pass the shunting trolley under the wagon and extends the trolley arms. By driving on the wheels, it grips the wheelset of the wagon from both sides.
  • The shunting trolley moves an individual wagon or the entire set to the designated location.
  • After loading or unloading is complete, the operator transports the wagons using the same procedure to the location where the shunting locomotive will take them over.

Device description

Is consists of welded travel frame, which through the use of anchor bolts is anchored to a concrete base where the main drive travels. The drive frame contains driving unit composed of three-phase airt-cooled electric motor and planetary gearbox, on the output flange of which the drive rope pulley is mounted.

Placed on a concrete base of driving station are pulleys, guiding driving rope to the return station, shunting trolley and return to the station.

The driving rope’s tightening is effected using of hydraulic unit or electric actuator.

It consists of welded frames with mounted rope pulleys and a rope anchorage (in the case of the "three-rope system", the rope is firmly anchored to the concrete foundation of the return station). The rope pulleys are protected by a cover.

The shunting trolley is driven under the wagons on its own track inside the track yard. Its rails are attached in the working area of the track directly to wooden sleepers or to so-called false steel sleepers placed on concrete sleepers. The track has a lowered section on one side and creates a so-called parking position for the trolley.

In this parking position, a locomotive can also pass over the shunting trolley.

The unlubricated steel traction rope is designed according to STN EN 12385-4 with a diameter according to the designed load. In the track yard, the moving branch of the rope is supported by sliding elements that reduce rope wear due to abrasion and keep it clean.

The shunting device is controlled as standard via a local control box, which is located in a clearly visible location next to the track, or from a control panel v in the operator's room.

Another option is remote control using a radio set. The operator manipulates the wagons from any location on the track. The service control point is the switchboard itself, which is used only for maintenance and repair purposes.

The pretension in the towing rope is not constant, it changes according to the required function of the shunting trolley. To catch the wheels of the wagon, the trolley extends the push rollers, which, after catching the wheels of the railway wagon, roll along its flanges. When the required manipulation of the wagon set is completed, the operator's command is given to reduce the pretension of the towing rope and to retract the push rollers.

The trolley is then able to pass under the train of wagons.
