Rail locking mechanism KAM-60-8

The spring-mechanical locking system KAM-60-8 is designed for locking and holding non-moving railway wagons on inclined lines during operation with individual wagons, e.g. holding them during the movement of the shunting device during filling or unloading of wagons, photo gallery.

Basic description

The locking mechanism consists of two independent parts – beams with movable segments, which are controlled simultaneously from the central switchboard. Each beam is located separately on one side of the track and fixed on the foundation sleepers.

The foundation sleepers are located between the railway sleepers and are fixed to the track. Depending on the track gauge of 1520 or 1435 mm, two lengths of foundation sleepers are then used.

Rail locking mechanism positions

Rail locking mechanism have 3 working positions:

  • 1. Parking position

It is the position where the beams of the locking mechanism are opened and inserted in the sheet metal cover, while allowing the free passage of railway wagons and locomotives and thus do not interfere with the passage profile of the track.

  • 2. Standby position

This is the position where the pressuere segments are not in contact with the wagon, but the segments are close to the wheelset and the mechanism is ready for the locking command. This position permits the normal passage of wagons and correction of the stopping of the captured wagon, but does not permit the passage of locomotives.

  • 3. Locking position

It is the position of the mechanism when the pressure segments come into contact with the wheelsets of the captured wagon. The individual locking segments are supported by the wagon wheels, with the compressed springs of the segments creating the pressure.
